Simplifying Radio Over IP technology

The Radio Voice Crossbanding System (RVCS) was developed by C4i in conjunction with US Army PEO-I using a mix of COTS and Government GFX Software and Commercial Hardware.

The resultant product provides crystal clear voice communications crossbanding among any Vehicle Intercom (VIC-3/5), Digital Radio Systems (WNW, SRW, EPLRS, EHF/UHF, NCW/WIN-T, etc.), and Analog Radio Systems (SINCGARS, HF/UHF, Bowman, etc.) providing Point-to-Point & Push-To-Talk communications from Brigade to Battalion to Vehicle and down to the Soldier.

The C4i RVCS provides a unified tactical voice communications solution for brigade to battalion & lower. It does this by providing voice Crossbanding capabilities over multiple military tactical and LMR/P25 radios and SATCOM, supporting reach back and combat voice communications over TYPE 1 secure network, including SUITE B-SECURE sharing suite interconnections and radio systems.

The system is TYPE 1 security and IA capable per DoD UCR2008 and NIST FIPS 140-2 compliant with integrated SIP/RTP and AS-SIP/SRTP support.

The RVCS is available in four and eight port options while keeping the same compact footprint.

VOIP/ROIP Terminology

A number of people have been asking about "Assured Services - SIP" or AS-SIP, SRTP and TLS recently. What are these terms? Why might these features be required?
What do they have to do with Radio Over IP systems?
Other questions include what codecs do you support? Do you support MELPe? Speex? But more importantly we need to know why someone might want to use one codec rather than another.
In my next post I'm going to discuss these topics and what they might mean for Radio Over IP solutions for public safety and defense communications.

Upgraded fire control centre launched at Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport in Queensland, is the first of 20 Australian airports to receive C4i's new SwitchplusIP technology for integrated communications, alarm monitoring and incident management.
General Manager ARFF Andrew Rushbrook said the fire control project involved the replacement of existing systems with a standardised modern digital system.
"It incorporates the very latest technology integrated communications and incident management resources to give Airservices fire fighters the best tools to manage any incident," Mr Rushbrook said.
It replaces the current patchwork of stand-alone systems with one fully integrated digital system.

By linking airports using IP technology, the new system provides a remote monitoring capability to improve efficiency, safety, and lower training and maintenance costs. The standardised system will also support easier transfer of employees between stations.

Switchplus Radio Over IP at AUSA and Modern Day Marine

AUSA is a huge exhibition, but if you're involved in communications take the time to seek out C4i at booth 4345. C4i's Switchplus solutions range from tactical, deployable radio-over-IP to large scale integrated radio and telephony dispatch. Radio remote control software will also be on display.

C4i Completes New Dispatch Systems for NSW Police Force

C4i recently completed a new dispatch system at Tamworth and conversion of the Wagga Wagga Communications Centre into a regional switching hub for the New South Wales Police Force. The systems were delivered in six weeks and C4i's scope included installation, test and training. Customisation of the touchscreen user interface was also included.

New Mobile and Rescue and Firefighting Radio Over IP Applications

C4i Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the LongReach Group, was awarded a contract by Dubai Airports for the turn key supply of its IP based Alarmon Switchplus Communications system at Dubai International Airport. The contract is valued at over AU$560K and will be delivered later this calendar year.
"C4i is offering its world class IP based Switchplus Alarmon product for this Fire and Emergency response application. The Alarmon product provides niche communications and control capabilities to the emergency response operators of this large international airport. C4i has a long history with Dubai International Airport and is proud to be part of the continued improvement and growth of this international airport. C4i recently successfully completed site acceptance work at Abu Dhabi International airport for a similar system." said Peter Harrison, Managing Director of C4i.
C4i also secured further orders this month valued in excess of AU$700K for the provision of mobile dismount systems to be used in vehicles by the United States military and New Zealand army. The Switchplus Mobile-Dismount systems enable access to multiple radios, radios bridging, remote control and also integration of IP telephones. The functionality is based upon C4i's Radio Interface Unit - a compact, 4-port radio gateway with an embedded SIP server and serial ports for remote control. C4i's Switchplus Mobile-Dismount system offers significant performance minimizing size, weight and power requirements.
